EU Ecommerce Rules Tracker

Withdrawal button, guarantee notice and the 30-day price rule in 27 countries

Where the withdrawal button and the harmonised guarantee notice are in force, what the button must say, and where a separate “lowest price in 30 days” line is required. One row per EU country, each with the statute we checked.

Indicative. Checked against the statute texts on the date shown; not legal advice. The consumer's country decides which rules apply (Rome I, Art. 6).

The EU law behind each column

Button wording: the EU text says the button is labelled “withdraw from contract here” or an unambiguous corresponding formulation (Art. 11a(1), second subparagraph). Most national laws repeat that rule in their own language. Hungary fixes its words with no alternative; the Netherlands fixes none; where a country has no national law yet, the EU wording is the reference.

Frequently asked questions

When does the EU withdrawal button apply?

Article 11a of the Consumer Rights Directive, added by Directive (EU) 2023/2673, applies from 19 June 2026, but a shop's legal duty comes from the national law that writes it in. On our last check (6 Nov 2026), 21 of the 27 EU countries had the button in force and 2 more had adopted it (Czechia and Slovenia).

Must the button use the exact words of the law?

Most national laws repeat the EU rule: the words of the statute, or an unambiguous equivalent. Hungary fixes its words ("elállás a szerződéstől") with no alternative; the Netherlands fixes none and accepts any legible, unambiguous label. Where a country has no national law yet, the EU wording "withdraw from contract here" in the shop's language is the reference.

When does the harmonised guarantee notice apply?

Directive (EU) 2024/825 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 set the harmonised legal guarantee notice from 27 September 2026, again through national law. On our last check, 18 of the 27 countries had it in force and 3 more had adopted it (Estonia, Poland and Slovenia).

Do I need a separate "lowest price in 30 days" line?

Only Poland requires it by law. Germany, Hungary and Croatia do not require a separate line, but the crossed-out price must be the lowest price of the 30 days before the reduction and the reduction must be clear, so a label is the safe design. In the Netherlands and Portugal it is expected in practice. In the other countries the 30-day rule is met when the crossed-out price is itself the lowest price of the 30 days before the reduction.

How often is this tracker updated?

We check every country against the official gazettes and legislation portals once a month, and sooner when a country we follow adopts its law. Each row links to the source we checked, and the change log at the bottom lists every update. This is information, not legal advice.

  • 4 Nov 2026Legal check against the statute texts: Germany, Hungary and Croatia need no separate 30-day line, but the crossed-out price must be the 30-day lowest and clear.
